The comic, yet poignant story of a young lad (Sebastian Rice Edwards) stuck at home with his mother (Sarah Miles), aunts and bratty sisters in WWII era England--while the most exciting aerial fights in history were raging within earshot of his bedroom.
His ever-tolerant mom (sarah Miles) does her parental best while Dad's off to war; but when your street's in rubble, the school's ablaze and the Luftwaffe is parachuting into your backyard, one tends to be a lot more lenient in this semi-autobiographical tale from writer-director John Boorman.
