I am a qualified Engineer with Bachelor's degree in Mechanical and Electrical and have over 25 years of experience in Production & Maintenance management. I began my career in HMT(Machine Tool division) Bangalore and was with them for 10 years, in the maintenance department. Most of the machines presently in the field of all industries have come subsequently and hence HMT machines are supreme in India and have contributed to all the other machines presently used. Hence, HMT machines are earmarked as Mother machines. HMT machines were produced when India started their adventure into machine tools with the collaboration of Oerlikon of Switzerland. This was orchestrated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who expressed concerns for India's entry in Industry sector.Every HMT machine is unique and even a small screw is identified by a part number. No other machine tool manufacturer in India have achieved the excellence of HMT machines in terms of quality as well as support. Unfortunately HMT's mission was short-circuited due to rampant in-consistence exhibited both at Government and at Corporate level. I am reflecting my views about HMT, not out of any emotional fit, but because it had enabled me to be a successful Maintenance Engineer, both at HMT as well as 6 other reputable industires in the private sector, where one has to confront various constraints due to inevitable professional jealousy, back biting and insinuations.
